American Express continues to expand its premium Centurion Lounge network across the US. On Wednesday, the issuer officially announced that a new location will be built at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), and is expected to open in 2023.

The new Atlanta location will be the largest Amex Centurion Lounge to date, taking up approximately 26,000 square feet in the airport’s Concourse E. It will be the first Centurion Lounge to have multiple outdoor areas, including a garden terrace inspired by the city’s rich tree canopy, and open tarmac views.

As is typically the case with Amex Centurion Lounges, the new Atlanta lounge will feature a design influenced by the city’s local landscape and culture, along with locally-inspired beverage and dining selections curated by a local chef and Centurion Lounge mixologist Jim Meehan. While details are expected to be announced closer to the location’s opening date, Amex revealed that one of the lounge’s distinctive features will be a modern bourbon bar.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which first reported on plans for the new lounge during the Atlanta City Council’s approval process last summer, the airport chose to contract with American Express for a new lounge because it wanted to increase the options for travelers who aren’t flying one of the “Big 3” airlines in or out of the city. The airport currently has nine Delta Sky Club lounges, an American Admirals Club and a United Club.

Amex Centurion Lounges are extremely popular with domestic travelers, and the issuer has opened several new locations in the last 18 months, including Centurion Lounges in Denver (DEN), New York’s JFK and London’s Heathrow (LHR) airport. The old lounge at New York’s LaGuardia (LGA) was also replaced with a new location in the airport’s rebuilt Terminal B in June.

Another new lounge at Washington DC’s Reagan National (DCA) is being constructed and is scheduled to open later this year, while the board of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has approved the construction of a Centurion Lounge in Newark (EWR) airport’s new Terminal A, which is expected to open in the latter half of 2023.

Visiting an Amex Centurion Lounge

The Amex Centurion Lounges are mostly back to full strength — only the Los Angeles (LAX) and Hong Kong (HKG) locations remain closed — so it’s possible to visit a lounge if you find yourself traveling now or in the near future. In addition to the 15 original Centurion Lounge locations, American Express also includes a number of its international lounges in the Centurion Network, along with Escape Lounges that partner with the issuer as Centurion Studios.

Entry to the lounges is complimentary to all card members with The Platinum Card? from American Express or The Business Platinum Card? from American Express on the day of their flight. Or, if you’re traveling on a same-day Delta flight, you can also enter a Centurion Lounge at no cost by having either the Delta SkyMiles? Reserve American Express Card or the Delta SkyMiles? Reserve Business American Express Card.
