What do you get with a Chase business credit card?
Chase business credit cards offer many of the same benefits as personal Chase credit cards, but may also include perks specific to small business owners. With your card, you can often expect to:
- Earn rewards: Chase business credit cards offer Chase Ultimate Rewards, loyalty program points with an airline or hotel, or cash back. Rewards come in the form of valuable welcome bonuses and for eligible business spending.
- Get travel benefits: Some Chase business credit cards provide travel perks, such as airport lounge access and travel insurance, and may offer bonus rewards for travel-related expenses.
- Access expense management tools: Chase business cards come with expense tracking and reporting tools, making it easier to manage your business accounting.
- Receive employee cards: Get additional cards for employees with customizable spending limits to streamline business expenses and earn more rewards.
- Build credit: Using your Chase business credit card responsibly can help build your business’ credit profile, potentially making it easier for your business to secure financing in the future.
- Take advantage of introductory annual percentage rate (APR) offers: Some Chase business cards offer 0% introductory APR periods, helping business owners save money on interest.
Is a Chase business credit card right for your business?
Chase business credit cards offer rewards in the form of transferable points, airline miles, hotel points or cash back, making them a great choice for business owners looking to get the most out of their spending. Additionally, they come with perks such as travel benefits and expense management tools.
That said, business owners with a longstanding relationship with another bank might prefer a card from that particular issuer. Or, if your business doesn’t have regular expenses or doesn’t require employee cards, a Chase business card might not be that useful.
Evaluate your business’s spending habits and your personal travel goals to find the credit card that aligns with your needs.
Eligibility criteria for a Chase business credit card
Qualifying for a Chase Business credit card is easier than you might think, so long as you have at least good credit. You don’t need an LLC or hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales to apply. Sole proprietors and freelancers can apply for Chase business cards using their Social Security number (SSN) if they don’t have an employer identification number (EIN). Chase will make its decision based in part on your personal credit profile, regardless of whether you have an EIN.
Applicants should be aware of the Chase 5/24 rule. This unpublished rule generally prevents you from being approved for a Chase credit card if you’ve opened five or more credit cards from any issuer in the past 24 months (excluding most business credit cards). All Chase business cards are subject to the 5/24 rule but do not add to your 5/24 count, so they’re a good pick if you’re trying to stay below 5/24.
How to apply for a Chase business credit card
Applying for a Chase business credit card is a straightforward process, and you can apply online or in-branch. You cannot apply over the phone.
To apply online, you’ll need to provide personal and business information such as your name, business name, SSN or EIN, and income.
Applying in person at a Chase branch will be mostly the same, but a representative will help you complete the necessary forms.
Sometimes, the approval decision is (nearly) instant. Other times, Chase may need more time and request additional information. Be prepared to provide documents such as bank statements, business tax returns and business licenses.
How to maximize rewards with Chase business credit cards
Making the most of the rewards you earn with your Chase business credit card(s) requires strategizing your spending and redemptions. Use your Chase business card for any spending that earns bonus rewards, but be aware of any rewards earnings caps associated with the bonus categories.
If your business has a team, adding employee cards can supercharge your rewards, as you’ll earn on employee spending. Plus, Chase business cards offer customizable spending limits on employee cards, so you remain in control of expenses.
Additionally, utilize your Chase business card’s benefits, including travel insurance, purchase protection and extended warranties.
When redeeming your rewards, opt for the methods that offer the highest value. With Chase Ultimate Rewards points, that’s most often done by booking travel through Chase Travel? or by transferring your points to Chase’s travel partners.
Last but certainly not least, always pay your credit card bill in full and on time to avoid interest charges. Interest will negate the value of any rewards you earn.
Methodology
Our money and data analytics teams evaluated all of the business credit cards Chase offers for new applicants. We then narrowed down our picks for the best Chase business credit cards by giving them a star rating out of five, based on the following factors and our editorial judgment:
Pricing and fees (40%)
Cards with a low or no annual fee scored higher than pricier cards in this category, as did cards that don’t charge foreign transaction fees. We also gave a boost to cards with more competitive variable APRs.
Rewards and welcome bonus value (35%)
All Chase business credit cards offer a welcome bonus and earn points, miles or cash back on spending, but not all rewards have the same value. We used spending data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and estimates of rewards values from The Points Guy to calculate which cards dole out the highest bonus and rewards values.
Spending limit flexibility (10%)
Cards that don’t impose a preset spending limit received extra points.
Benefits (10%)
We assessed business-friendly benefits such as purchase protection, extended warranty, cell phone insurance and return protection in this category. We also considered travel perks, including elite status, annual free nights, trip cancellation/interruption insurance and rental car insurance, giving higher grades to cards with a broader range of useful benefits.
Annual credits/bonuses (5%)
Cards that come with credits, bonuses or other rewards for spending in certain categories or meeting a spending threshold were given a small advantage compared to cards that don’t.
What didn’t make the cut
- Southwest? Rapid Rewards? Performance Business Credit Card: This card is an excellent choice for frequent Southwest flyers. However, the $199 annual fee makes it less appealing for travelers who don’t fly with Southwest often enough to justify the cost.
- United Club? Business card * The information for the United Club? Business card has been collected independently by CNN Underscored. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer. : This card offers elite-like perks such as United Club airport lounge access. That said, the high $450 annual fee is a drawback for those who can't make the most of the card's benefits.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Each Chase business card offers a distinctive set of perks and, often, a valuable welcome bonus. Choose the card that best aligns with your spending habits and personal travel goals. With a variety of Chase business cards to choose from, finding one shouldn’t be a problem.
Having a business card can help keep personal and business expenses separate. Some business cards also only report to the business credit bureaus instead of the personal credit bureaus. Additionally, they’re often tailored for business spending, offering rewards on office supply expenses, for example, as opposed to personal cards that might provide bonuses in categories such as grocery store or entertainment spending. Plus, they’re usually equipped with expense management tools, making it easier to manage your business finances.
Yes, you can manage your Chase card online through Chase’s website or mobile app. With these tools, Chase card holders can easily view current balances and transaction histories, pay bills, set up alerts, monitor spending, and more. Chase’s website and app also allow card holders to track and redeem rewards.
Yes, you can transfer a balance with a Chase business credit card. Similar to a balance transfer on a personal card, you can initiate the transfer after opening the balance transfer credit card and wait for it to be approved. Read your card’s terms and conditions for specifics on how to transfer a balance.
