It’s impossible to forget Ken Jeong’s hilarious performance as gangster Leslie Chow in “The Hangover” trilogy. And as you can only imagine, the actor and former stand-up comedian is every bit the funny guy IRL. What you may not know, however, is before he found his true calling, Jeong was an internist. “I definitely took a unique side road to get here, but I feel blessed and it’s definitely given me a fresher perspective,” Jeong says. “At the end of the day, I was born to be a comedian and born to be an actor.” No arguments here.
In addition to his roles in “The Afterparty,” “Crazy Rich Asians” and “Community,” Jeong can add brand ambassador for Cottonelle to his credits — a partnership that puts him front and center of normalizing down-there care. And yes, his favorite toilet paper accompanies him on set. “I’ve never told anybody this, but I feel I can share,” he says. “I always take this pack on set, but I keep them to myself!”
Ahead, Jeong shares nine of his everyday essentials with CNN Underscored.
“I’ve used these ever since I got my start in the business,” Jeong shares. “I’m on set most of my days, and when you’re wrapped, these wipes are the answer to the decompression of Ken Jeong.”?Super soft on the skin, these alcohol- and fragrance-free wipes work to remove dirt and makeup from the skin. As for Jeong’s other skin care essentials, he’s quick to state that he puts his complexion in the hands of the experts. “I am lucky to get great care from my hair and makeup department. They know my skin better than [I do],” Jeong says. “And when I’m not at work, my wife, Tran, is really incredible. She’ll suggest SPF and other products for me to use when I’m out in the sun.”?
“Chunky peanut butter on toast in the morning is everything. You get your protein, it satisfies my sweet tooth craving and you can’t really complain about your day after that,” Jeong says. “I mean, you can, but at least you can’t complain about what you ate that morning.” Made with real roasted peanuts and free from added preservatives, artificial flavors and colors, the chunky peanut butter spread contains seven grams of protein per serving.
“I do like traditional Coke Zero, but if I can get a Cherry Coke Zero, that is just the cherry on top,” says Jeong, who has worked with the brand in the past. “I drink this for breakfast, lunch and dinner — it started in my doctoring days working 36-hour shifts and now that’s how people know me on set.”

“Don’t be caught without your toothbrush” is one of Jeong’s self-care mantras, and he takes keeping his pearly whites in perfect condition so seriously that the actor’s become known for always having these on hand. “I have dozens of these bad boys at the ready because I’m on the road a lot,” he shares. “No joke, my wife will attest to this.” The travel-friendly kit, which he jokes “makes going through TSA a breeze,” includes a foldable toothbrush, cover and mini Crest toothpaste.

After taking Mocha for a walk, like a good pet parent, Jeong cleanses her paws with these wipes, which you can also use on the face and the body. “They give just the right amount of cleaning. You don’t want anything too chemical or abrasive, and these are tolerable and respectful to our dog,” he says. The deodorizing wipes come in an easy-to-dispense container and are infused with aloe vera, vitamin E and glycerin.
“My dog, Mocha, is a three-and-a-half-year-old goldendoodle, and she loves these because they are natural, tasty and not too filling,” he says. Made from easily digestible natural ingredients, including protein-rich peanut butter, these rawhide-free chews help promote healthy teeth and gums. “As a pet owner, you go through trial and error with different treat sticks, and these are the ones my dog likes because Mocha told me so.”?
“I’m an actor — I’m sensitive, and what does a sensitive soul need? Cottonelle Ultra Comfort,” jokes Jeong, who recently partnered with the brand. “When I’m on set, I need comforting directors that say, ‘You weren’t that bad. You’re not that horrible an actor.’ You need support and Cottonelle Ultra Comfort addresses that.” Featuring a premium, ultra-soft 2-ply that has gentle cleaning ripples, Jeong’s beloved toilet paper is free of harsh chemicals and dyes and uses 100% plant-based fibers.?
“When the pandemic started, I was really running a lot, even on my treadmill, to the point I started to get a little bit of plantar fasciitis,” Jeong says. To remedy the issue, he bought a pair of sneakers from the cult-favorite performance sneaker brand Hoka. “They are like pillows for your feet. I noticed a lot of film crew all wearing Hokas.” Jeong’s kicks of choice have a breathable mesh construction and memory foam collars to support the ankle. “I even bought an extra pair that I use as slippers at home.”

Jeong is a “comfort kinda guy” who favors sweatpants and admits he’s very finicky when it comes to the jeans he wears. “These are very, very stretchy but have the durability of a jean, so they bridge the gap and give you a bit of a dress edge,” Jeong says. The actor’s go-to pair are these dark blue ones that have a modern slim straight fit. “I’m definitely a jeans and T-shirt kind of guy. When you’re on the road a lot and have a sensory overload job, you want to keep things as simple and comfortable as possible.”?
