What we like

JK Moving features some of the industry’s most experienced moving crews. The company annually trains its workforce to handle complex tasks, which helps ensure your belongings are in good hands.

JK Moving Services’ other advantages include serving all states and offering live customer support 24/7. It also offers perks other moving companies don’t, such as climate-controlled storage units with video surveillance, GPS-enabled trucks, fragile-only packing, and specialty services for seniors. All of these add up to a premium moving experience.

What we don’t like

While JK Moving Services provides long-distance moves to and from all 50 states and 170 countries, it offers extremely limited local moving services for a company of its caliber. It only serves Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., for local moves.

Another downside is that you can’t get an estimated price quote without calling, and quotes aren’t binding. This means they can go up or down by the time you’re ready to move, regardless of whether your itemized moving list has changed.

JK Moving impressed us with its range of moving services, mobile app, third-party financing options and three flexible options for estimating your move: an AI-assisted self-survey, a virtual consultation with live visual assessment or an in-home survey. However, JK Moving Services is more expensive than some competitors and requires a 10% deposit of the quoted amount or $500 (whichever is greater) to book a moving date.

How much does JK Moving Services cost?

The cost of your move with JK Moving Services depends on several factors:

We called JK Moving Services for a quote for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom single-story home to move from Dallas to Southern California. The agent estimated it’d cost an average of $12,500 if we did the packing. For a full-service move with its staff members handling the packing, the price was closer to $16,000.

We also asked about transporting a convertible car in an enclosed carrier. This added an extra $1,550 to the total.

Our representative wasn’t able to offer any discounts for a May move. However, JK Moving is one of the few companies offering financing options. The company’s partnership with Enhancify lets customers borrow money for as low as a 0% interest rate, depending on creditworthiness. It could be an option if you need to relocate quickly or unexpectedly.

JK Moving Services handles local, interstate, international and commercial moves. Trained and screened employees offer full-service packing, loading, transport, unloading and unpacking. They can pack only fragile items if that’s all you need. If you need a place to store your belongings, JK Moving Services has secure, climate-controlled storage options.

The company’s mobile app makes it easy to review quotes, pay for your move, add insurance and track your possessions. You can even video call with company reps to show what needs to be moved and get a better idea of the cost. JK Moving Services also has GPS tracking and a mobile app to keep track of your items.

JK Moving Services doesn’t handle junk/debris removal or self-service moves. It does have perks you won’t get from some competitors, such as enclosed vehicle shipping, fragile-only packing and shipping of antiques, pianos and collectibles.

JK Moving Services customer service and experience

Picking up the phone is your best bet when communicating with JK Moving Services. We tried requesting a quote through its website but never received a response, even after waiting several days. When we called, we connected with a representative right away.

We had excellent customer service on the phone. Despite it being peak hours, we experienced no hold time connecting with a representative. The representative was friendly and answered all of our questions. What impressed us most was their ability to provide a ballpark (nonbinding) estimate without keeping us on the phone for more than 10 minutes, unlike some of its competitors. This efficient quoting process is great for those on a tight schedule needing to gather and compare multiple quotes.

However, you must be ready to jot down information. The company didn’t send the breakdown via email after the call.

JK Moving Services liability coverage

Like all licensed movers, JK Moving Services provides basic liability coverage for free. If something gets damaged or lost, you will be paid 60 cents for each pound of that item. So, if a 10-pound lamp breaks, you’d get $6. There’s a $100 deductible if you file a claim.

JK Moving Services also gives you the option to buy extra coverage. The full-replacement value plan will pay you at least $6 for each pound of broken or missing items. You can adjust the coverage amount based on how much your items weigh and how much they are worth.

JK Moving Services vs. competitors

JK Moving Services may be pricier than some competitors, but it delivers a premium moving experience for those willing to pay. For a Texas-to-California move in May, JK Moving Services quoted us between $12,000 and $16,000, depending on whether we pack items ourselves or have them handle everything. In comparison, International Van Lines estimated $6,000 to $8,000. Solomon & Sons quoted $5,152 for the same move.

However, JK Moving Services’ customer service over the phone was top-shelf. We connected with a representative who provided a quote within 10 minutes. An agent with International Van Lines kept us on the phone for 30 minutes and could not deliver a rough estimate without asking for many details.

It’s worth noting that JK Moving Services requires a deposit equal to 10% of the quoted amount or $500 (whichever is greater) to book a moving date. It’s typical to pay a deposit, but some movers like Mayflower don’t require one.
