Bose is celebrating its 60th anniversary the way you’re supposed to: with diamonds — both figuratively and literally. The company just dropped limited-edition diamond-colored versions of three of its popular Ultra series headphones. This includes the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones, one of our picks for the best headphones you can get. Additionally, the in-ear Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds and the company’s new jewelry-like Ultra Open Earbuds are now available in a new hue that should have been there on day one.
The elegant Diamond color brightens up these fantastic headphones, which have the best active noise cancellation of any over-ear cans we’ve tested.
These in-ear buds offer Bose’s signature superb sound and best-in-class active noise canceling, and they look even better in the Diamond color.
The new Diamond design makes the most sense in these earbuds that decorate your earlobe like jewelry.
The new color is just part of the story, though. Buying one of these pairs of limited-edition Diamond-colored headphones enters you in the diamond-encrusted version of Willy Wonka’s golden ticket contest. Specifically, each pair you buy gives you a chance to win a diamond-encrusted pair of the Ultra Open Earbuds, valued at nearly $9,000.
The contest to win the headphones runs from today (Aug. 26) to Sept. 16. Bose will contact the winner by the end of the month.
The Diamond color, which is essentially silver, arrives as a welcome addition to the lineup that I kind of wish were a permanent part of the collection. The Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones normally come in black, an off-white dubbed “White Smoke,” and a warmer hue dubbed Sandstone that features champagne-gold accents on the telescoping arms. They’re one of our favorite over-ear headphones, and offer sound quality that’s truly competitive with what Apple and Sony offer. The QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds’ (which we rank as some of the best noise-canceling headphones) color lineup is similar, with black, White Smoke and a Moonstone Blue that’s rather rare for pricey headphones.
As for the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds? These clip-on headphones are sold in black and White Smoke, and offer a design you might not be familiar with. You just clip them onto your earlobe instead of putting them in your ear, and then get great sound without cutting off your awareness of what’s going on around you. This design is ideal for anyone who wants to hear the world around them, from athletes at the gym to cyclists whirring around town.
Bose is also celebrating this anniversary with sale pricing on select products sold on its own site. That includes the impressive Smart Soundbar 600 that I’ve personally tested, which is currently 10% off at $449.
