Don’t hit snooze on this early Prime Day discount: Amazon’s new Echo Spot smart alarm clock is back with a redesigned look and a 44%-off deal. This 2024 update takes the familiar semispherical design of past iterations and moves its speaker from the bottom to the front for bolder tunes. If you’re unfamiliar with its predecessors, the Echo Spot’s screen shows more than the time, displaying the weather, the music you’re listening to and more.
The new Echo Spot will challenge for the title of best alarm clock in three color options: Black, Glacier White and Ocean Blue. To further fit into your bedroom, its display can be customized with one of six themes: orange, violet, magenta, lime, teal and blue. The new Echo Spot’s price comes in at? $80, though Amazon Prime members can score one at a sharply discounted $45 from now through the end of Prime Day on July 17.
Amazon has updated its Echo Spot alarm clock with a new design for improved sound, and it’s on serious sale through Prime Day 2024.
Once you’ve picked the Echo Spot that looks best for your bedroom, setting your alarm should be as easy as talking to Alexa. For example, if I were feeling more ambitious than I am these days, I would say “Alexa, set a weekday alarm for 6 a.m.,” possibly adding a specific song, kind of music or one of the new custom alarm sounds (Aurora, Daybreak, Endeavor and Flutter). Thankfully, a simple tap on the Echo Spot will snooze the alarm during your tougher mornings and adjust your alarms in the Alexa app.
And since this is an Echo device, you get a bunch of other features, such as the Alexa assistant for asking questions and making commands to connected smart home devices. Its built-in microphone means you can also make calls, hear what’s going on with your smart doorbell and do all the other Amazon-branded Drop In tricks. For sound quality, Amazon’s promising “vibrant sound with clear vocals and deep bass,” from the Echo Spot’s 1.73-inch front-firing speaker.
The takeaway
The new Echo Spot looks like the result of a deep slumber — in a good way. After years spent in hibernation, Amazon’s alarm clock has woken up with plenty of color, a neat redesign and all the standard Alexa tricks you’d expect, and we can’t wait to test it for ourselves later this month. That said, the Spot’s $35 off deal will end once Prime Day 2024 ends, so the clock is ticking.
